Predict-Er Project at the XXXIII Symposium of the Society for Radiation Protection of Serbia and Montenegro 2025

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Mihajlo Jović, a member of the research team of the Predict-Er project, participated in the XXXIII Symposium of the Society for Radiation Protection of Serbia and Montenegro, held from October 1st to 3rd, 2025, in Banja Koviljača, Serbia (https://dzz.org.rs/simpozijumi/2025-banja-koviljaca/).

On this occasion, Dr. Jović presented a scientific paper entitled: “COMPARATIVE EVALUATION OF THE EMPIRICAL (RUSLE) MODEL AND NUCLEAR (137Cs) METHOD IN ASSESSMENT OF WATER EROSION IN COMPLEX CATCHMENTS”; Authors: Mihajlo Jović, Ivana Smičiklas, Milan Đorđević, Mrđan Đokić, Miloš Manić, and Snežana Dragović.

The paper addresses one of the key challenges in environmental protection-reliable assessment of the soil erosion rates in catchments with complex physiographic characteristics. It focuses on two different approaches to erosion assessment: modeling potential erosion rates using Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE) and quantifying soil redistribution rates using the nuclear (137Cs) technique. In addition to a comparative analysis of the theoretical foundations, capabilities, and limitation of both methods, the paper highlights the advantages of their combined use, supported by examples from literature and a case study from the Republic of Serbia, with the aim of enhancing the understanding of erosion dynamics in complex catchments.

We thank the Symposium organizers for the oppurtunity to present the results of the Predict-Er project at this scientific event and to engage with the broader scientific and professional community.
